They generally equate motivation with an insincere friend who turns his back on you just when you need it most. You must know that feeling. You know that feeling when you wake up one day determined to change everything radically. You start training, eating healthy, laughing and being positive, etc. You practice all that for a week, and then there is a drop in that euphoria and you go back to the old way. After a few months, you try all over again, determined to persevere this time, however, all the same, thing happens again and you go back to the old way.
From this example, you can see that the motivation is shortness of breath. Like we said, motivation acts like a dishonest friend who turns his back on you just when we need him most. He is with us while the beautiful feeling and euphoria last, and as soon as it thickens a little, he leaves us without a single word. You will agree that it is not very wise to rely on a friend like this.
HOW TO MOTIVATE OURSELVES?
Everyone is looking for a way to motivate themselves. They watch motivational videos, read motivational books, listen to motivational speakers, and not a word of motivation. What would happen if you read about a diet you never followed? What would happen if you read books about getting rich and didn't do anything about it? That would be exactly what happened, NOTHING. This is because this "formula" lacks one very important part, and that is ACTION. Without applying what you have learned, you will not achieve anything, no matter how hard you try to motivate yourself.
HOW TO BECOME DISCIPLINED?
Without any hesitation, you will build discipline by doing the things you have to do when you are NOT doing the most! Discipline is like a muscle. If you do not use it, it atrophies. If you apply it constantly and apply it when you are facing the biggest challenges, it gets stronger. Apply this in any segment of life, and you will see that "motivation" has nothing to do with it, nor do you need it, you just need solid DISCIPLINE.
No matter what you start working on, every start will be difficult for you, that is a fact. What you may not know is the answer to the question of why this is so. It has nothing to do with whether you are lazy or unmotivated. It has to do with our human nature. We are made so that we are most open to change until we are 25 years old. After that, our brain tends to live in that comfort zone that you have built until then and in every way "sabotages" you if you want to change that zone. Our brain does not want to change that comfort zone and will react violently if you start introducing new changes in life. In such a situation, our brain begins to secrete NORADRENALINE (stress hormone) which causes us to feel restless, to want to give up, we have no focus or motivation. But there is GREAT NEWS! When the brain realizes that, despite that hormone, we continue to do what "stresses" us, the secretion of DOPAMINE starts. Dopamine is a hormone that will suppress noradrenaline and cause a feeling of satisfaction, excitement, and a desire to dedicate ourselves to what we are doing.
With each new learning or change of habit after 25 years, this process happens. It happens to everyone, not just a few. But only about 20% of people put up with this pressure and move on. What group do you belong to?
WHAT IS DOPAMINE ACTUALLY AND WHAT IS ITS FUNCTION?
Do you know the guy who is the happiest at the party - that's DOPAMINE. Dopamine is associated with estrogen and testosterone and gives you the will to live. Dopamine is turned outwards. Serotonin, the hormone of happiness, is turned inwards. Dopamine can be characterized as an extrovert, and serotonin as an introvert. If the level of serotonin is higher than dopamine, we feel happy but at peace. Serotonin is secreted during meditation. When serotonin is above dopamine for a long time, we lose that feeling of passion a little. The feeling of hunger to achieve something more, to progress, to compete with ourselves and with others is reduced. It is more characterized as a state of NIRVANA.
People generally think that dopamine is a hormone of happiness that is secreted when we achieve something significant, such as a reward for hard work. But dopamine is more than that. For us, it is the fuel that pushes us forward, towards achieving our goals. It is very demanding, so you have to constantly "nurture" it. You have to applaud him, encourage him, remind him that you are on the right path and that there is no giving up. If he thinks we're taking him for granted, he withdraws. He reacts the most to those "applause" that we give ourselves.
With each new learning or change of habit after 25 years, this process happens. It happens to everyone, not just a few. But only about 20% of people put up with this pressure and move on. What group do you belong to?
The human body usually has this ability to create exactly as much dopamine as it needs, but this can be called into question when someone "bullies" their dopamine reservoir with addictive behavior. This does not only mean the consumption of drinks, drugs, or medicines, but also some "harmless" actions that we do every day. Social networks are an ideal example of this. The former dose of 50 likes and a couple of comments was quite enough, however, over time, we get fed up with it and then we want even more because we can’t feel the satisfaction we felt before. After a while, we become chronically tired and not very happy, however, this can be reset by reducing the behavior that dopamine drains us for no reason.
In young children, dopamine is naturally elevated because they need it to explore the world. In depressed people, it is very low, which makes it difficult for them to take action. Dopamine learns based on reward and punishment. Those behaviors that dopamine has realized are good for us - it rewards us. It adds even more motivation. And those behaviors that he thinks are not good for us, he does not reward us. Disappointment is the biggest enemy of dopamine.
Symptoms of dopamine deficiency:
• Fatigue
• Apathy
• Lack of motivation
• Decreased libido
• Sleep problems
• Poor memory
• Lack of concentration and focus
WHAT ARE THE NATURAL WAYS TO INCREASE DOPAMINE?
• Music, but those songs that give you a sense of will and motivation. Find your playlist for a good mood. This is a quick way to raise dopamine levels.
• Dancing and playing
• A walk in nature
• Running/jogging
• Weight training; any physical activity
• Foods rich in magnesium and tyrosine (bananas, dark chocolate, cocoa, green tea, almonds, apples, avocados, oatmeal, watermelon, pumpkin seeds, green vegetables ...)
• Supplements (But by no means rely solely on them, they are the last option)
Are you now aware of why you are giving up and why motivation is not the solution to that problem? In short, endure a little noradrenaline discomfort. Be patient until dopamine takes the lead. And then continuously applaud and encourage yourself! A short recipe for achieving goals!
