Today, changing habits has become a highly valued skill that few have mastered. Habits are key to our success in life, and while good habits can be a great support and support, bad habits can destroy you and turn you off your path.
In today's blog, we will cover the topic related to bad habits and how to replace them with good ones. I will describe in my own words the vision of this topic by our well-known and highly respected personal growth and development coach, Bob Proctor.
WHAT IS A HABIT?
"Not that leg, the other leg!"
Habit is an idea implanted in our subconscious that is constantly repeated. After a while, we do that repetition without any conscious thinking about it. Let me explain to you how our habits are formed.
Remember how you put on your pants in the morning? Which leg do you put in the sock first? If, for example, you put on your right leg first, try putting on your left one the next day. You will start staggering and you will feel weird.
Why is that so you wonder? Because when you were very young, someone taught you in what order to put on your socks. They told you, “Put your foot here. Not here, the other leg. ”Your parents or guardians taught you to wear pants the way they wore them.
Very quickly you adopted this routine because they implanted that process in your mind and "fed" it through repetition. Of course, this is just an example of one of the habits, but this applies to everything we do, and some of those habits are counterproductive for us.
BOB PROCTOR ABOUT HIS BAD HABIT
Bob used to visit bars all the time. One day he went to his favorite bar, raised his glass, and looked around. He said to himself, "There are losers all around me."
He put down his glass and told himself that he would never come to that bar again nor would he ever consume alcohol again. And he kept that promise. Do you know what he did next?
Instead of spending his money on bars, he started spending by betting on horses, so he replaced all the money he gave to bar owners by giving to horses. He replaced one bad habit with another.
Then he finally realized that if he did not consciously and intentionally replace a bad habit with a good one, he would automatically create another also unhealthy habit.
CHANGE ONE TO TWO HABITS AT THE SAME TIME, NO MORE THAN
You should not try to get rid of more than two habits at the same time. It will become very difficult for you, and in the end, you will give up on everyone. Of course, if you do decide to change one or two habits at the same time, stick to your plan until those new habits become automatic. It will make a huge difference in your life.
We will give one example. In the early '70s, Bob was hired to train insurance agents "Prudential Insurance" from America. He taught them to do only two things.
They have formed the habit of being in front of potential clients every morning at exactly 9 o'clock and they ask each of them to buy insurance worth 100,000 dollars. He told the agents that they don’t have to sell insurance but just give each client a chance to say NO.
Sales in that company increased by hundreds of millions of dollars just by changing two habits!
WHAT HABITS DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE?
Changing habits takes a lot of energy and understanding, but I guarantee that it is worth it. If you want to get rid of some bad habits permanently, here are tips on how to do it.
First step:
Write down on paper your goal, dream, a challenge that you have not yet solved. The subconscious mind is full of details about that, so I suggest you enter as many details as possible.
Remember that if you try to get rid of a bad habit that does not benefit you and you do not do it fully consciously and replace it with a good habit, you will surely form another bad habit. Nature does not like a vacuum, so do not leave space, because if you do not consciously enter what you want, the same will be entered into what was already only in another form.
You may be wondering how to find out if a habit is bad? You will recognize it by the fact that you will see your behavior, and that is the behavior that leads you to undesirable results.
Second step:
Write down on paper any environment you associate with this bad habit, behavior, or outcome. Write down everything you think about it, both good and bad. Every thought that comes to your mind about it. And here, describe every detail crystal clear.
Then ask yourself what is the complete opposite of what you wrote down. Now write on another piece of paper the behavior that is opposite to the one you want to change. When you're done, burn the paper on which you wrote down the unwanted behavior. Although this is symbolic, you must destroy it.
Third step:
Write down your desired behavior three to five times a day, and read it often. Eventually, this new desired behavior will begin to take root in your consciousness and thus take over power over old and bad habits. A bad habit will eventually be destroyed because your mind no longer feeds it, and your new desired behavior will flourish.
Fourth step:
It’s time to get to the core of your habit - to your paradigm. Ask yourself the following questions about the habits you want to change:
• Why am I doing this?
• What evidence do I have that this habit is good for me?
• Where did I learn this?
Keep re-examining yourself until you get all the possible scenarios and answers. Now that you have learned what your paradigm is, create an affirmation that will help you program your mind. The affirmation should be the opposite of your paradigm and expressed positively.
Choose the habit you want to change, and repeat this process daily. It will change your life! If you want to seriously work on making your life divine, click HERE and become the Best Version of Yourself!
