Every negative obsessive thought is characterized by its persistence, persistence, and constant appearance against our will. These thoughts strongly affect a person's mood, disturb his concentration, demotivate him and give him the feeling that he has no control over himself. In addition to being negative in content, they also act uncontrollably the more a person struggles with them, which leads to even greater frustration.
WHAT IS THE REASON WHY OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS ARE SO PERSISTENT?
There are two reasons why these thoughts are so strenuous. The first reason is that these thoughts are "colored" by negative affects (emotion), such as anger, rage, fear, guilt, and the like. If these thoughts were not supported by any of these emotions, they would slowly pass through our minds, and we would not even pay attention to them. Emotions are the ones that give them strength and perseverance that a person does not know how to deal with.
The second reason is our attention. Because of the persistence and discomfort that these thoughts provide, a person tends to constantly pay attention to them and analyze them or to fight them by replacing them with positive thoughts or suppressing them which additionally feeds them and gives them power and strength. Without paying conscious attention to these thoughts, they will begin to lose strength and power, lose weight, fade, and appear less frequently, until they are completely lost. When you learn the technique that I will present to you below, you will learn to deal with these obsessive negative scary thoughts.
TECHNIQUE FOR OVERCOMING NEGATIVE OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS IN THREE STEPS
The first step is to recognize negative obsessive thoughts and distinguish between what is happening in our minds and what is happening in reality. You must first understand that thoughts are just that, thoughts, just like any other. Therefore, they have no supremacy, they are not realistic and they cannot influence you if you do not allow them to do so. Negative obsessive thoughts are just the fruit of our imagination, imagining an outcome that does not happen now and here. Everything that does not happen in our reality is the fruit of our imagination and the product of our mind. Imagination, no matter how close or far from our real reality, is just an imagination, a humorous construction of our mind. It is up to you whether you will take these imaginations seriously and treat them as facts. Thoughts are just mental events in our minds, not real facts. When you differentiate between your imaginary thoughts and reality, you will learn not to take your negative obsessive thoughts literally. The better question is why does our mind create these negative thoughts at all? This is due to the non-integrated unpleasant emotions we are fighting against. Every negative thought brings with it some unpleasant emotion, which is the basic reason why these thoughts exist at all. These feelings force your mind to create all those negative thoughts to integrate those accumulated emotions. What to do with those emotions? Simply give up fighting them and let them go.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WITH NEGATIVE OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS?
The second step consists of the fact that it is necessary to break that chain of negative thoughts. Wondering how to do it? Just don't resist them but keep them there and let them go. Do not analyze them and do not fight with them. Don't try to stop them, just don't give them your attention. Do not delve into them and they will start to fade and eventually disappear completely. Just understand that it is a product of your mind, a mental projection consisting of images, words, or sounds. It is a film that is not to your taste and to which you do not want to pay attention. Let the movie go and without active attention, it will not affect your mood. You have complete control over whether you watch that movie or not, whether you register and analyze those thoughts or you just state them and release them. You have no control over the content of that film but you have direct control over the decision of whether to watch it or not.
BECOME AWARE OF THE PRESENT MOMENT
The third step is to become aware of the present moment. Let us remind ourselves that negative thoughts are only the fruit of our minds and do not refer to reality. Reality represents the present moment, what is now and here. Instead of delving into negative thoughts, consciously delve into the present moment. Notice what's happening right now and here. Look around you, see where you are. What do you see? What do you hear? What's around you? What colors are around you? What are you just touching? Focus on breathing because it is a constant action that is happening right now, be aware of your inhale and exhale without any condemnation or analysis. Give yourself time to let go of negative thoughts and unpleasant feelings. Don't rush them and don't fight them, just let them go without your conscious attention. Be aware of the present moment. Do something that will require your full concentration and focus, which will further help you distance yourself from negative thoughts. When you manage to make this conscious separation and non-identification with negative thoughts, they will go away on their own together with the unpleasant feeling.
This technique is practiced, you have to be consistent and use it constantly to help. It's not a magic wand. It requires your commitment. When you automate it, it will be much easier for you.
